Picture the last time you used a machine like this style, called a heat exchanger. Before every shot, you run a splash of water through to cool the group down, wait a moment, hope you timed it right, then pull the shot and hope you got it right too. Rush that step, or skip it, and the coffee comes out burnt, or sometimes flat, and you’re never quite sure which one it’ll be until you taste it.
The MaraX quietly does that whole routine for you. It uses two temperature sensors instead of one, one watching the boiler and one watching the actual group head where your coffee brews, so it always knows the real temperature and adjusts on its own. There’s no flush to learn, no timing to get right, none of the guesswork this style of machine usually asks of you. You just brew.
It also lets you choose whether the machine favours brewing or steaming, called brew or steam priority, so it’s set up to match how you actually use it most, whether that’s mostly pulling straight shots or making plenty of milk based drinks. And every shot starts with a brief, gentle pre-infusion, a low pressure soak before full pressure kicks in, which lets the coffee bloom evenly rather than getting blasted straight through. It’s a genuinely capable machine that a barista would be happy behind, but it’s built so you don’t need to think like a barista to use it well.
This sits above the Lelit Elizabeth if you want a bit more steam power and a slightly different style of machine, and it’s one we’d suggest trying in person so you can feel the difference for yourself. Pop into our Keswick showroom and we’ll run you through both. As Adelaide’s authorised Lelit repair and warranty centre, we handle its servicing ourselves, and buying it from us comes with a 2 year warranty, labour included.
