Lelit MaraX3: Flow Control Comes to the Mara
Your grinder is dialled in, your dose is spot on, and the shot still tastes a little sharp. Until now, once the shot started, all you could do was watch it run and try again tomorrow.
The Lelit MaraX3 PL62X3 is a heat exchanger espresso machine by Lelit, made in Italy, that adds Pagaia, Lelit?s patented electronic flow control, to a body just over 25cm wide. In a heat exchanger machine, one 1.8 litre boiler holds steam for your milk while fresh water for each shot is heated as it runs through a stainless steel tube inside that boiler. Pagaia is a wooden lever that lets you slow down or open up the water running through your coffee while the shot is still going.
It suits home baristas who want to experiment with how each coffee tastes, and milk drinkers who want proper steam without giving up half the bench. It?s slim, but it isn?t shallow: at 53.5cm deep, measure your bench from the wall before you fall for it.
Flow control is hard to judge from a spec sheet, so we?ve set one up as a working demo in our Keswick showroom. Pull a shot yourself, move the lever mid pour and taste the difference before you decide. As Adelaide?s authorised Lelit service centre, and a family business here since 2009, we?re also the people who?ll look after it for years to come.
